MEGA WAVE PTO consortium advances integration and testing in Pisa
Partners of the MEGA WAVE PTO Project met in Pisa, Italy, on 28–29 October 2025 for the project’s 18-month progress meeting (M18), hosted by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. The meeting gathered all consortium partners — in person and online — to review technical progress and coordinate upcoming integration and testing activities for the project’s modular, all-electric Power Take-Off (PTO) system.
Over two days, partners shared updates across all work packages, focusing on aligning modelling, design, and prototype efforts. Discussions centred on integrating system modelling with the physical test rigs under development, progress on component reconstruction, and preparations for the next phase of laboratory validation.
Key highlights included:
Integration and testing: Partners outlined plans for the upcoming test campaigns, which will focus on validating mechanical and electrical performance and refining control strategies.
Modelling and analysis: The consortium discussed advances in system modelling to improve predictive performance and inform testing approaches.
Reliability and maintenance: Work continued on approaches for condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and system optimisation to enhance the long-term reliability of wave energy technologies.
Communication and dissemination: The group reviewed upcoming publication opportunities and outreach activities to share project insights with the broader research and industry community.
The meeting reinforced the project’s collaborative spirit and commitment to delivering a scalable and efficient PTO solution for wave energy applications. With integration and validation activities now underway, the MEGA WAVE PTO consortium continues to advance Europe’s progress toward clean, reliable ocean energy.
