5–7 October 2026 | The Hague, the Netherlands
The MEGA WAVE PTO project participated in ICOE OEE 2026, held from 5 to 7 October in The Hague, bringing together the international ocean energy community to exchange knowledge, share technological progress and discuss the future of the sector.
Throughout the three-day conference, consortium partners welcomed visitors to Stand 7, where they presented the project's work on developing scalable, reliable and maintainable modular power take-off (PTO) systems for wave energy.
The stand attracted steady interest, with visitors particularly keen to learn more about the integrated PTO system and the modular power electronics developed by Supply Design Ltd. A CGEN demonstrator offered an opportunity to take a closer look at one of the technologies being developed within the project.
With several technology partners present, the exhibition provided a valuable opportunity for detailed technical discussions, allowing visitors to explore the different components of the PTO system and how they work together.
Sharing project progress at a dedicated side event
On 5 October, the consortium hosted a dedicated side event, “MEGA WAVE PTO: Advancing Modular Power Take-Off Systems”, presenting progress across the project's technical work packages.
Speakers from WavEC, the University of Edinburgh, CGEN Engineering, Supply Design Ltd, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the Technical University of Crete shared insights into the development of the project's technologies, from magnetic gearing and modular generators to adaptable power electronics, wave-to-wire modelling, control strategies and condition monitoring.
The presentations also highlighted results from the project's operation and maintenance (O&M) assessments, which indicate the potential for significant cost reductions through modular technology and simplified maintenance. Discussions on European supply chain competitiveness explored how innovation, manufacturing capabilities and collaboration can support the industrial development of wave energy technologies.
With the 1 kW prototype already built and tested, the consortium also outlined its next steps, including the development of the larger 100 kW PTO demonstrator and preparations for further testing and validation.
Connecting with the ocean energy community
The consortium's participation in ICOE OEE 2026 provided a valuable platform for sharing project results, engaging with industry stakeholders and discussing the potential of modular PTO technologies to support the development of wave energy.
The MEGA WAVE PTO team thanks everyone who visited the stand, attended the side event and contributed to the discussions in The Hague.
